"I write fantasy and adventure stories in my spare time, mostly in self-defense against the stereotyped fantasy available on the mass market. My earliest and most profound influence was Robert E. Howard. I don't think anyone has done it as well as he did. Other early influences include Lin Carter, L. Sprague De Camp, and Karl Edward Wagner.
